The skills a multiple choice question cannot test

Communication, listening, handling an objection, staying calm with an angry customer. Everybody agrees these decide outcomes, and almost everybody assesses them with a quiz that asks which of four answers is correct. Recognising the right answer and producing it under pressure are different skills.

What makes it hard

The part that actually
gets in the way

The assessment does not match the skill

A quiz measures recognition. The job requires production, out loud, to somebody who is not being helpful.

Feedback is too vague to use

"Work on your communication" is not something anybody can act on next Tuesday morning.

There is nowhere to practise

The only rehearsal most people get is the real conversation, and that one has a customer or a colleague in it.

What ZillionLMS does

How the platform
handles it

  • Practise against an AI partner that holds its position instead of agreeing with everything
  • By text or by voice, matching the channel the job actually uses
  • Marked against a rubric written for that scenario, naming the specific miss
  • A manager can review the transcript and the score before coaching on it
  • A weak rubric line points straight at the course that addresses it
  • A leaderboard ranked on practice done, so improvement is visible without publishing scores

Before you ask

Common questions

Which soft skills are covered?

Communication, active listening, negotiation, de-escalation, customer handling, giving and receiving feedback, and more, across scenarios grouped into categories. You can also write scenarios for situations specific to your business.

How is something this subjective scored?

Against a rubric written for that scenario, with specific lines such as acknowledging the concern or agreeing a next step. The score cites the lines, so it can be argued with rather than simply accepted.

Do people find it uncomfortable?

A rehearsal that goes badly costs nothing, which is exactly the point. Scores stay private to the learner and their manager, and the leaderboard ranks on how much practice somebody did rather than how well they scored.
